WGNO-TV ABC New Orleans - United States Television

WGNO, is a full service television station broadcasting to New Orleans, Louisiana on local digital UHF channel 26. It is an affiliate of ABC. WGNO is the only Tribune owned tv station to be affiliated with ABC. WGNO signed on the air in 1967 and was than know by the call signs WWOM (Wonderful World of Movies) and its programing was mostly old movies and a couple of network shows. The station changed it’s call sign to WGNO when it was bought in 1971 by Communications Corp. of the South. though out the 1970’s WGNO’s programing was a mix of network shows that the local affiliates of the Big Three Networks would not. in 1976 the channel was sold to Seymour Smith, but the programing didn’t change. The station changed hands twice more, first bought by Glendive Media in 1978 than sold to its current owners, Tribune Broadcasting in 1983, but remained one of the markets leading independent station until 1995. That year WGNO affiliated with Warner Broadcasting, but changed to ABC the next year.
